MUKHAR: Teaching and Research Centre for Deaf, Dumb And Mentally Retarded

(A wing of APCL for Special Education)

Special Education has been one of the most important needs of education sector today. There are a large number of children who are not able to get normal education as they may be physically handicapped to take full advantage of the learning system. In the border line cases it would be better to teach them with the normal school set up while in serious or profound cases we should have separate arrangement for learning. So it maintains a separate stream of learning through Mukhar to take care of the needs of the Special Education of Deaf, Dumb and Mentally Retarded.

This wing is being managed by a committee consisting of:

• Dr Subhash Chandra, Retd Prof. of English, BBRA University, Muzaffarpur

It holds regular consultancy session for learners and parents to teach deaf and dumb and mentally retarded children at :

It has also organized camps at School of Creative Learning to identify health and learning problems of children requiring special attention.

It had organised rallies for generating awareness towards the handicapped and mentally retarded children on 6.5.98 and 2.10.99.

It has been continuously organizing seminars on issues related to special education. It has also published two souvenirs to commemorate the seminars on:

• Speech and Communication Problems of the Deaf, Dumb and Mentally retarded children

• Our Responsibility towards the Deaf, Dumb, & Mentally Retarded Children

There is a proposal to integrate it as a permanent centre at the new campus so that as and when children develop they can be shifted to the normal school. As a matter of fact, it would work as a separate section of different classes of School of Creative Learning. These learners would have opportunity of participating in common activities so that they may not develop any complex and they may also take advantage of peer group learning. There is a proposal for having a hostel also so that children from all over the country may be extended this facility.
